IB Creativity Action Service
Instructor: Jennifer Harris
Creativity, action, service (CAS) - Modified from http://www.ibo.org.

The CAS requirement is a fundamental part of the programme, and takes seriously the importance of life outside the academic world, providing a refreshing counterbalance to academic studies.  It is comprised of three parts:

  • Creativity is interpreted broadly to include a wide range of arts activities as well as the creativity students demonstrate in designing and implementing service projects.
  • Action can include not only participation in individual and team sports, but also taking part in expeditions and in local or international projects.  Action is about bettering one's physical self.
  •  Service encompasses a host of community and social service activities. Some examples include helping children with special needs, visiting hospitals and working with refugees or homeless people.

Students are expected to be involved in CAS activities for the equivalent of at least three hours each week during the two years of the programme, for approximately 150 hours throughout their junior and senior years.

The CAS Coordinator for Lubbock High School is Jennifer Harris.  She is responsible for helping students find a varied choice of activities and guiding them in their completion of these activites.  It is ultimately the students' responisiblity, however, to create and/or find activities to work on.

A system of self-evaluation encourages students to reflect on the benefits of CAS participation to themselves and to others, and to evaluate the understanding and insights acquired.  Logs and reflections must be submitted to Mrs. Harris by the dates assigned.  Additionally, students will complete a minimum of two individual interviews with Mrs. Harris to reflect upon their CAS experience.  Completion of CAS is mandatory to receive one's IB diploma.

Programmes are monitored by IB regional offices.

March Interviews
I will be conducting CAS interviews with all IB juniors on these four days.  On March 19, I will also be reinterviewing some of the seniors.  You need to bring all of your logs and reflections with you to your interview.  You should have been doing this since the beginning of this year, as per our meeting at the beginning of this year.  If you have any questions, you can email me at jenniferharris@lubbockisd.org or come by room 2304.

If you are a junior and you have yet to turn in  your signed contract, you need to bring that with you to your interview as well.

Any paperwork or instructions you need are on the bottom of this webpage.

Good Luck!
Senior Reflections
Seniors!

If I told you that you were done with your CAS hours, I need to have your reflections as soon as possible.  I know some of you are waiting for your final projects to end (like Valentalent Show), but the rest of you need to get them finished.

If I told you that we would do a second interview, it will take place on either March 19th or 20th in the library conference room.

Thanks for all of your hard work!
Mrs. Harris
